Corinth was a cosmopolitan seaport and, humanly speaking, alien to the message of the Gospel. Yet the Lord revealed to Paul that he had “much people” in the city, whose lives were changed through faith in Christ.

A series of articles first published in The Christadelphian (1998-2000), published as book form.
“We can view the books of Chronicles as documents preparing a people for the Saviour to come. Like the Gospel accounts of Matthew and Luke, they commence with genealogical information, and continue by describing the growth and power of privileged classes in Judah who quickly moved away from relying on God’s word, killing the prophets and stoning those who were sent to them from God.”
In these words the book is recommended as a help to the reading of the books of Chronicles.

This selection of exhortations is drawn from the large legacy of notes left by the late Brother Harry Tennant. They are representative of the man who with his spiritual insight and wealth of experience could advise others on the matter of exhorting:
“The word of exhortation is no set speech, no display of oratory, no occasion for self-preening or exhibition of a good memory or a discerning taste for good English. The world has enough of that. Rather it is that ‘through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope’. Let the brother seek to follow Paul in his words when he ‘exhorted them all that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord’: follow him in his true service for Christ when he comforted ‘the souls of the disciples and exhorted them to continue in the faith’.”

The command of the Lord Jesus Christ, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel”, was a challenge almost beyond the grasp of the first disciples.
It was to take an outstanding character to break out of the mould of Judaism and pioneer the preaching to distant lands and far-off peoples. He had to be able to take men and women with him along the way, from both the old dispensation and the new. He needed to be capable of forging friendships, of building teams and overcoming obstacles. This study of paul and his friends focuses on a man uniquely fitted for the task and on those who joined with him in his great and enduring enterprise.

This book, as the title suggests, is presented in two sections. Part one is headed “The philosophy of faith” and examines the absolute need and reasonableness of our faith and confidence in God. Part two leads on from this basis and in many practical ways is concerned with our response under the heading “Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel”.

Where man came from, and where he is going to, are two fundamental questions about human life.
The past 150 years have seen the rapid erosion of belief in an all-creating God, and schools, colleges and universities generally assume that the theory of evolution is accepted by all. This new booklet provides compelling reasons for accepting the Biblical account of creation, and is useful for those whose faith is being challenged by evolutionary teaching.
