OVER the years many fine Bible students have contributed articles to The Christadelphian. Some of the series, and occasionally collections of single articles, have subsequently been produced as books, but there is much material lying largely forgotten that deserves the attention of a new generation of readers.
The availability of the magazine in electronic form has made it far easier to search through past issues, but it can still be a time consuming exercise to collect together all the articles in a series.
The Study Series from The Christadelphian addresses that issue, and it is hoped that readers will find these additional e-booklets helpful and convenient to use. The twenty-fourth one, Studies in Matthew’s Gospel, reproduces eighteen articles under this heading by Brother John Benson which were published in the magazine from January 2014 to June 2015.

This book is based on articles that first appeared in Faith Alive! It offers practical advice for those contemplating marriage, and for those already married. It deals thoughtfully with the scriptural principles of marriage, and the threats that can arise both from within and without. Throughout this delightful book, the “great mystery” is always evident – that marriage speaks to us about “Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5:32). Here are exhortations for all who wish to be his disciples.

“If thou be the Son of God …” The refrain of the tempter was not questioning this declaration, for there had been the voice from heaven, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”. The tempter’s words stirred Jesus’ God-given ability to do what he wanted. He could turn stones into bread, leap off a pinnacle of the temple without injury and take all the kingdoms of the world. The intensity of these three temptations, repeated through the ministry, is explored in this book, as we consider him being tested “in all points … as we are, yet without sin”.
In contemplating the magnitude of the Lord’s achievements, accomplished with matchless compassion and a single-mindedness that leaves us breathless, we are left humbled and truly thankful. May we know ourselves as we are known.

This work was first published in 1880 as a result of lectures given in the spring of that year. The first lecture contains this statement of intent:
“The object of the present course of lectures is to exhibit in a simple way the meaning of this (at first sight) apparently inscrutable book of Revelation.”

An exciting work, looking at the events surrounding the times of John the Baptist when some in Israel were on the tiptoe of expectation, awaiting the long-promised Messiah. This fictional account gives the flavour of life in those days, viewed through the eyes and experiences of a young Galilean boy, and provides many unexpected insights into the scriptural record.
