John the Baptist's work was in preparation for Christ. Prior to his showing to Israel Jesus was in the privacy of Nazareth and largely unknown. The situation called for a forerunner. God provided such a forerunner in John the Baptist.
When the 'Glory of the Lord' was revealed in Jesus Christ, the work of the forerunner was finished. He was murdered on the whim of a godless woman, and the Saviour whom he had procalimed testified to his greatness. Those who will attain to the kingdom will be given eternal life, having been accounted righteous. John came to instruct the people in this glorious hope and 'to give knowledge of salvation unto [God's] people by the remission of their sins' (Luke 7:77).

Harry Whittaker in his Foreword writes:
Hezekiah is without doubt one of the greatest characters of the Old Testament. He has not been accorded the attention or admiration he deserves. And his reign was one of the most exciting in all world history.
This book is actually "two books in one" - the first being a study of the life of Hezekiah (written by Harry Whittaker) and the second a study of the Songs of Degrees (written by George Booker).

This work, first published in 1980, is a valuable contribution to our understanding of the life of Joseph, as revealed in the scripture. As Michael Ashton comments in the preface:
"It is impossible to read about (Joseph) without understanding something more of the Redeemer for whom he waited: the child of God's love who was himself called out of Egypt, and who still today calls men and women out of Egyptian darkness into the glorious light of God's truth".

Originally given as a series of Bible Class lectures in Australia in 1987, the studies contained in this book grew out of a feeling of nearness to the great character Joshua, and his stirring colleague, Caleb. Their faith at Kadesh-barnea is one thing. Still another is their incredible patience in the 38 "wasted" years which followed. But they knew what we are still learning: the wilderness years are not wasted on those who know they are on their way to the promised land.

The period of time from the reformation of Josiah to the destruction of the temple was only about 40 years, but it is one of the most important periods in the history of God's people. The generation of Josiah and his children, short though it was, formed the background for three of the great prophecies of scripture - Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel, as well as the shorter prophecies of Zephaniah and Habakkuk.
Josiah was a remarkable man of faith. How could such a man who devoted his life to learning and living the truth of scripture produce three sons who by their early twenties were thoroughly corrupt? The question will be of keen interest to those bringing up children in a world filled with corrupting influences.

Writers of biographies usually find that they are helped by the shadows cast by their subjects rather than by any nobility of character radiating from them. Weaknesses reveal more than excellences; so many apparent virtues are counterfeits.
But Jesus casts no shadows. He stands irradiated by the light of Heaven, beloved of God. He is altogether lovely.
The purpose of this book is to present a simple picture of Jesus, so that the reader may be encouraged to look even more reverently at the Man who can be confused with no other man, and meditate more frequently upon the words that could have fallen from no other lips.

A servant, a king, a shepherd summarises much of the life of David - aspects which, in turn, define his greater Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The author, in exploring the life of David, reveals a pattern for the life of those who follow God, who would share in the covenant made and who wait for that greater King to be revealed, to sit on the throne of his father David.

"Peter is no excuse for us: he is a challenge and an incentive." So writes the author in his introduction to this book. Although he acknowledges that in the New Testament we have a record of the acts of Peter, the scriptures are really concerned with his conversion. The life of Peter is examined against this background.

This bok is based on the series of articles first published in The Christadelphian from 1993 to 1995. The life and times of Samuel are important in the development of God's people. He prepared the nation for their king by upholding God's word, and by abhorring deception, idolatry and immorality. The message is therefore equally applicable to all who are waiting for Israel's king, and who wish to prepare for his coming.

Solomon's wisdom was proverbial, yet his folly stands as a warning to all those who think they know better than God. Richly blessed, as he was, with ability and opportunity, King Solomon made great changes in Israel. He built God's Temple as well as many other fine buildings, but he was not able to establish a lasting dynasty. His son and successor threw away almost everything that Solomon had achieved.
This book examines Solomon's life story and shows what he accomplished, with God's blessing. It also considers what went wrong and what we can learn from his experience. It contains practical advice and sound consel for people who want to live like a king in the coming kingdom of God.
